SC5 was formed with members from AFSEC and Stakeholders by APUA SC5 Work Plan 2022-2025 has approved a 3 years Road map based on APUA needs to provide APUA Members with Standards which will be harmonized as African Standards. Agreed on the ToR of the Interconnection Guide” and “Smart Metering Standard”

APUA 3rd Meeting South Africa

SC5 members discussed  the survey to get the knowledge of APUA utilities needs in standardization in various sectors The Standards Mapping Tool which assists to map the standards required by different sectors  (Power Pools, System Management , Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Renewables...etc), and accordingly directed to AFSEC TCs to include within their work plan of reviewing. “Smart Metering Specification” was finalized and  circulated among APUA members.

APUA 4th Meeting Mozambique

The ToR for Renewable Energy Integration with the Grid Guideline was identified to be of interest to APUA. SC5 members agreed on the scope and to participate in the new committees of Green Hydrogen and E-Mobility.

APUA 5th Meeting Angola

The Standardization Survey discussed at the APUA 3rd meeting held in Durban was modified to include not only the categories of standards but the standards' numbers and titles under each category.

The survey to be circulated among SC5 focal points to contact APUA utilities in their corresponding countries to fill the survey.

SC5 approved the procedure for Monitoring and Maintaining SC5 Standards proposed by AFSEC as well as the process to join AFSEC Technical Committeesfor SC5 members  who are non-AFSEC members.

APUA 6th Meeting Tunsia

A Roadmap for standardization opportunities based on Survey Results presented by AFSEC was approved by SC5

The standardization Mapping Tool including the results of the standardization survey received from 6 SC5 focal representing 11 utilities have been compiled. 

More than 400 standards were received from SC5 focal points, almost 50% were already adopted by AFSEC as AFSEC Electro Technical Regional standards and the remaining were assigned to ATCs to be reviewed during 2025/2026, with the possibility of  APUA members to contribute in AFSEC Technical Committees.  

APUA standardization training needs are identified to cover topics like Standardization Process and AFSEC Guides
