AFSEC TC77 EMC Training Workshop Windhoek, Namibia

Within AFSEC efforts to promote the implementation of EMC-related standards across Africa, a three-day capacity-building training workshop was held on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), EMF Exposure, and Power Quality, by AFSEC Technical Committee 77 (ATC77) in coordination with Namibia Standards Institute (NSI), in Windhoek from 12 to 14 August 2025.

The workshop focused on AFSEC TC77’s key technical guidelines: EMC for Medical Devices (2020), Guidance on EMF Exposure (2022), and Power Quality and Compliance Guidelines (2024). It aimed to enhance technical knowledge, practical compliance skills, and cooperation among professionals from regulatory authorities, power utilities, healthcare, telecommunications, and standardization bodies.

Training was conducted by Prof. Amevi Acakpovi (Chair of AFSEC ATC77), Eng. Mai Mohamed Elhafez (Secretary of ATC77), and Dr. Romaric Adebola (ATC77 member).

Thirty participants attended the Workshop which included practical group exercises that enabled participants to analyze real EMC challenges, propose solutions, and apply relevant international standards such as IEC and CISPR.

EMC Capacity-Building Training Workshop, Cotonou, Benin

A two-day capacity-building and awareness training workshop on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) was organized in Cotonou, Benin, from 5 to 6 December 2025, targeting engineers and technical staff.

The training addressed the growing need for EMC competence in power and communication systems and increasing integration of renewable energy, digital control, and automation.

The training aimed to strengthen national capacity in EMC by enhancing technical knowledge, promoting awareness of international standards—particularly the IEC 61000 series—and supporting the integration of EMC compliance into Benin’s electricity and renewable energy operations.

The training covered EMC fundamentals, electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure and health considerations, power quality issues, and conformity assessment and compliance, in addition to practical hands-on measuring of electromagnetic fields.

Training was conducted by Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, Eng. Mai Mohamed Elhafez, and Dr. Romaric Adebola. Twenty participants attended and were evaluated through daily assessments.
